Tell us a bit about yourself:

Dr. Latinia M. Shell’s counseling experiences include over 20 years of both teaching and counseling in school, college, and community/mental health settings. Her research area of interest includes racial identity development, multicultural counseling and cultural competence, social and racial justice, diversity school inclusion, supervision and training, and physical/psychological wellness. Dr. Shell has a Doctorate Degree in Counseling Psychology, a Master of Education Degree in Counselor Education, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. Dr. Shell has the following credentials- Licensed Professional Counselor in PA, National Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and Approved Counselor Supervisor. Currently, Dr. Shell is the Owner of Diversity Works- Counseling, Supervision, Counseling, Training, LLC. Counseling services rendered include counseling for individuals, groups, couples, and families. Specialty areas include working with diverse ethnic minority clientele, as well as working with women in transition with emotional, mental, and behavioral issues. In addition, Dr. Shell provides supervision to counselors interested in seeking national certification and licensure; consultation for both mental health and diversity issues; and training pertaining to diversity/multiculturalism, as well as mental health and wellness. Recently, Dr. Shell and her colleagues just published a book entitled “The Education Pursuit of Black Female Scholars- How I Got Over”. Dr. Shell’s book chapter title is- “From the Projects to the Professoriate”. Additionally, Dr. Shell was featured in an episode of Fatal Attraction- “Jarring Jealousy” as an expert on Domestic Violence regarding a case in Lancaster, PA. Lastly, Dr. Shell’s Private Practice Diversity Works, LLC was awarded the Best Counseling Services in Lancaster, PA for the last 3 consecutive years! In sum, Dr. Latinia M. Shell is a proud Counselor Educator and Licensed Professional Counselor in Private Practice, who is making a difference in our society and in the lives of the many students and clients whom she works with.

What drew you to The Candy  Factory?

 I wanted to be able to network and have a professional work environment.

I grew up in the Pocono Mountains and went to college for a BFA in Graphic Design at Marywood University. While in school I wrote for Inkredibly.com, and had a residency at the Lacwac Sanctuary for writing, while working summers at Pocono Plateau Camp and Retreat as a Program Assistant leading high ropes courses and team building activities, and using my photography skills to document each day. Since then nature has continued to influence my work inside and outside an office environment. I’ve worked in a fast-paced digital design agency in Scranton, PA for a year before moving with my wife to Lancaster, PA, where a number of our friends have ended up as well. I now work with TCO Fly Shop as a graphic designer, web assistant, and fly shop attendant. I also freelance as an illustrator and designer when I’m not fishing, cooking, or playing games with friends.

What drew you to The Candy  Factory?
