Lancaster Young Professionals Development Series – Public Speaking

August 12, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Lancaster Young Professionals (LYP) Development Series hosted each month -August will focus on Public Speaking. Visit the LYP website for details and to register.

“Becoming a more effective public speaker can help your career in many ways. Even if you never have to give a presentation, these skills can help you become a better communicator. The new job, the promotion, the direction a project will take and who will lead that team – such decisions are not always based on who is the most qualified candidate, but on who most effectively communicated why they were the right person or had the right answer.

Nick Renfroe will lead an exploration of three pillars of effective public speaking – master the body, master the material, master the space.

The discussion and demonstrations will include stretches, breathing and vocal exercises, poise and posture, pace, diction, syntax, choosing your words carefully, slang, colloquialism, understanding your audience, technical run throughs, and more.

We will be analyzing texts and presenting to each other. Sample materials will be available, but this is an opportunity for you to get hands-on help! If you have a speech or a presentation coming up, get in touch and we can work on your materials during this program! nick.renfroe@gmail.com

Nick has 30+ years of vocal training and received state-wide stage acting awards in Virginia and an award for Excellence in Acting and Character Development from theFolger Shakespeare Theatre and Library in Washington DC. He has performed with touring choirs and several bands along the East Coast, performed live on New Jersey’s infamous WFMU radio station, and played a gig at the inimitable CBGB. In business life, he has addressed international audiences in several countries, often televised, and worked as a voice-over artist. Over the years he has led several acting workshops, trained vocalists in a variety of genres, and trained colleagues, friends, and employees in the art of Public Speaking.
