Candy Factory member, Dr. Amanda Kemp today announced that her new book “Say the Wrong Thing: Stories and Strategies for Racial Justice and Authentic Community” would officially go on sale on June 16 in honor of Juneteenth, a holiday which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans at the end of the Civil War in April 1865.

“This book offers specific actions that readers can take to counter implicit bias and racial profiling,” says Amanda Kemp, Author and Visiting Scholar at Franklin & Marshall College.

“It’s been about 150 years since African Americans were freed and yet racism persists. Say the Wrong Thing: Stories and Strategies for Racial Justice and Authentic Community” provides tools to engage in honest conversations across the color line,” said Kemp.

Kemp calls these Strategies of the H.E.A.R.T which is an acronym for her give guideposts:

  • Hold Space For Transformation
  • Express Yourself
  • Act with Intention
  • Reflect on Yourself
  • Trust the Process
