For 33 years Sheila Mastropietro oversaw the resettlement of 6,097 asylum seekers who fled war or persecution from around the world, including Albania, Bhutan, Burma, Congo, Iraq, Somalia, Syria, and the former Soviet Union. At the end of August 2020, she decided it was time to pass the torch on to another and retire from Church World Service.

We’ll talk about her journey as a one-woman show, creating the Lancaster branch of Church World Services, her experience during the 2016 restrictions placed upon her life’s work by the Trump administration, and how she’s settling into this newfound role called retirement.
